Can shoppers actually find your products?

Broken or slow on-site search quietly loses sales. Shoppers who can't find what they want in a few seconds don't browse around — they leave. See how your search actually performs.

Search, tested the way a shopper actually uses it

We probe your storefront's public predictive-search endpoint with a handful of generic terms, then confirm the full search results page works as a backstop.

Predictive search responds

We check whether as-you-type search suggestions respond at all. Some themes disable this endpoint entirely, silently downgrading the search experience.

Response speed

As-you-type search needs to feel instant. We flag anything over 2.5 seconds as too slow for predictive search suggestions.

Zero-result probes

We test a few common, generic terms — "shirt", "gift", "new" — to catch a broken or empty search index.

Full search page fallback

We also load the full /search?q= results page as a backstop check, independent of the predictive-search API.

Broken search is invisible to you, visible to everyone else

Shopify exposes a fast public Ajax search API by default, and most themes wire it up correctly out of the box. But themes get customized, search-replacement apps get installed and misconfigured, and indexes get stale — and none of that is visible to you, the merchant, because you already know your own catalog and rarely need to search it.

A new visitor doesn't have that advantage. If search is slow, disabled, or returns nothing useful, they don't dig through your navigation to find what they want — they leave. Search is one of the highest-intent moments on your storefront, and it's easy to leave untested.

What checking your search does

Catch a broken predictive search early

Find a disabled or misconfigured as-you-type search before it quietly costs you sales, not after.

A speed sanity check, no manual testing

Get a response-time read on your search suggestions without opening dev tools yourself.

Spot a thin or empty search index

Zero-result probes surface an index that needs attention before a shopper notices it first.

Peace of mind on the "find it fast" path

Confirm that the fastest route from visitor to product actually works as intended.

Three steps, about ten seconds

Paste your store URL

Any public storefront works — yourstore.com or the myshopify.com address. No login, no install, no admin access.

We scan what visitors see

Our scanner uses only Shopify's public search endpoints — the same ones a shopper's browser calls — and runs every check server-side.

Common questions

Why these specific probe terms?

"shirt", "gift", and "new" are generic, catalog-agnostic terms that are likely to return something on most general stores. Zero results across all of them is a signal worth checking manually, not a hard failure.

My store search returned zero results for the probe terms — is that a real problem?

Not necessarily, especially for very niche catalogs. Treat it as a prompt to test with your own actual product names rather than a confirmed bug.

Does this test the full search experience, like filters and sorting?

No — it checks the core predictive-search API and full search page load only, not filter or facet behavior.

Why would search suggestions be slow?

Usually a large catalog without proper indexing, a third-party search app under load, or generic hosting/network latency. Worth investigating with your search app provider if flagged.
