My banner shows up fine in the theme editor but is missing on our other market's site — what am I missing?
If a section, banner, or block looks fine in the default theme editor but disappears when you view your store through a secondary market's domain or language, the cause is almost always a market preview or visibility setting, not a broken theme.
What's going on
A merchant sets up a new market, everything looks right in the theme editor, they publish, and then a banner, section, or piece of copy simply isn't there when they check the live store through that market's domain, subfolder, or language. It's confusing because the theme editor preview looked correct the whole time.
This almost always comes down to Shopify treating each market as its own context. The theme editor lets you preview and edit as if you were a shopper in a specific market or language, and changes made in one context don't automatically carry over to another. On top of that, some plans allow publishing a different theme to specific markets, and individual sections or blocks can be restricted to appear only for certain markets. Either of these, set up once for a campaign or regional variant and then forgotten, will make content vanish for one market while everything looks normal in the default editor view.
Why it happens
Markets are each set up with their own domain or subfolder, currency, and language, and the theme editor mirrors that by letting you switch which market or language context you're editing in. If you add a section or edit copy while the editor is set to your default market, that change lives in that context only — it doesn't automatically propagate to every other market's context.
On top of that, some stores can publish a different theme to specific markets, so a market may be running a different, possibly older, theme entirely, and individual sections or blocks can be scoped to appear only for certain markets through visibility settings. Either of these, configured once for a promotion or regional variant and then forgotten, will make content disappear for one market while the default editor view looks completely normal.
5 ways to fix it
Confirm the affected market isn't running a different published theme
Under Online Store, check which theme is actually published to that market rather than assuming it matches your main storefront. Shopify allows assigning a distinct published theme per market on some plans, so a market can quietly be serving an older or duplicate theme while you edit a different one. If the theme name or version doesn't match, republish your current theme to that market.
Re-check the content in the theme editor's market preview, not just the default view
The theme editor lets you preview and edit as a shopper would see a specific market's domain, subfolder, or language. Content added while previewing your primary market is not automatically copied into other market contexts. Switch the preview to the affected market, confirm the content is genuinely missing there, and add or copy it into that context directly.
Look for visibility settings scoped to specific markets
Individual sections or blocks can be restricted to show only for certain markets or conditions. It's easy to set this up for a limited-time promotion and forget it's still filtering a section months later. Open the section's settings, check for any visibility or targeting condition, and confirm the live market isn't being excluded.
Check for a missing or blank translation on that market's language
If it's specific text rather than a whole section that's missing, check your store's translation settings for the affected language. Content overridden per language will render blank if the translation for that locale is empty or was never filled in, even though the default-language content looks correct. Fill in or correct the translation for the market in question.
Rule out caching before you assume something is broken
Once theme assignment, preview context, visibility, and translations all check out, clear your browser cache or test in a private window on a different network, since a change can occasionally take a moment to appear across markets. If the content still doesn't show after a hard refresh, the cause is one of the settings above rather than caching.
Bottom line
Most "content missing on one market" reports trace back to the theme editor's market preview, not a bug: something was added while viewing the default market and never copied into the other market's context, or a section's visibility settings quietly exclude it. Work through theme assignment, preview context, visibility, and translations before assuming anything is broken. If you're constantly re-entering market-specific content by hand across many markets, that recurring workload is worth solving with a more structured process or tool — but for a one-off missing section, the free native settings above are usually the whole fix.
