My Shopify Products page won't load, but Orders works fine. What's going on?
If your Products page is blank or won't load while Orders and everything else in Shopify admin works fine, here's how to narrow down whether it's Shopify, your browser, or your account, and what to do about each.
What's going on
You go to check inventory or edit a listing, click into Products in your Shopify admin, and it just won't load: a blank screen, a spinner that never resolves, or an error message. Meanwhile Orders, Customers, and the rest of the admin work completely normally. It's confusing precisely because it's inconsistent. If the whole admin were down you'd assume an outage, but when only one section is broken it's not obvious whether the problem is on Shopify's end, in your browser, or specific to your account.
This is a real, recurring report in Shopify's merchant community, not a one-off fluke. Multiple merchants have described the same pattern of Products being unreachable while the rest of the admin functions normally. The good news is that this class of problem is almost always fixable without any data loss. Shopify's admin sections load and fetch their own data somewhat independently, so a failure in Products doesn't mean your catalog itself is damaged. It usually means that one section failed to load for a reason sitting between your browser and Shopify's servers.
Why it happens
Shopify's admin sections each load and fetch their own data somewhat independently, which is why one section (Products) can fail while another (Orders) works normally. A stuck browser session, a corrupted local cache, a blocking browser extension, or a transient issue on Shopify's side affecting only certain services can each break one section without touching the rest.
Less commonly, the cause is specific to your store or account: a staff permission that restricts Products access for a particular login, an unusually large catalog or a single product with an extreme number of variants that times out on load, or a saved filtered view in Products that's gotten into a bad state. These are rarer than the generic session or browser causes above, but worth ruling out if the basic fixes don't resolve it.
5 ways to fix it
Check Shopify's status page, then reset your own session
Start at status.shopify.com. If Shopify is reporting an active incident affecting Admin or Products, there's nothing to fix on your end except wait and recheck periodically. If status is clear, the problem is local to your session: log out of admin.shopify.com completely, close the tab, clear cookies and cache for the shopify.com domain (or just try a private/incognito window), and log back in. A stuck or corrupted admin session is one of the most common causes of one-section-broken-but-others-work behavior.
Disable browser extensions and try a different browser
Ad blockers, privacy extensions, script blockers, and some VPN or proxy extensions are a common cause of a single admin section failing to render while the rest of the admin works fine, because they can block scripts or requests that a specific page depends on. Before assuming anything is wrong with your store's data, try loading the Products page in a different browser, or the same browser with all extensions disabled.
Check whether it's a staff permissions issue
If only some staff accounts can't reach Products while the store owner can, check the staff permissions settings in your admin to confirm that account's role actually has Products access enabled. Shopify's granular staff permissions can restrict access to specific admin sections per user, and a recent permission change can produce exactly this symptom: Orders visible, Products not.
Rule out a problem with a specific view, filter, or product
If the Products list loads briefly then errors, or one specific product page won't open, try clearing any saved filters and loading the plain Products list, then try opening a couple of individual products directly. Stores with very large catalogs, a product with an unusually large number of variants, or a saved view stuck in a bad state have occasionally shown this exact pattern, where the list times out but other admin sections load normally.
Contact Shopify Support if it persists
If status is clear, the issue reproduces in a clean browser session with extensions off, and it isn't a permissions problem, contact Shopify Support through the Help Center in your admin, or ask in the Shopify Community forums, with screenshots and the exact error you see. A single-section failure that survives basic troubleshooting is usually account- or store-specific and needs a Shopify engineer to check logs you can't see yourself.
Bottom line
Most of the time this turns out to be a session, cache, or browser-extension problem rather than anything wrong with your store's data, since Orders and Products are separate sections of the admin and one can fail while the other keeps working. Work through the status page, a clean browser session, and your staff permissions before assuming it's a data problem, and open a support ticket if none of that clears it. This is a troubleshooting issue, not something an installed app can reach or fix.
